This course will give you confidence using English for work, everyday and study. You will focus your English language skills in reading and writing, and develop speaking and listening skills. You willl take Entry 2 ESOL Reading and Writing exams.

About this course

-• use your English to do everyday tasks such as shopping, travelling, talking to friends and work colleagues
• pass the English Speaking Board ESOL Entry 2 reading and writing exams
• ask and answer everyday questions using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms
• talk and write about everyday topics using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms
• describe and compare objects and pictures
• listen for details in short conversations and recordings about everyday topics
• write short emails or letters on everyday topics both formally and informally
• use capital letters, full stops, question marks and commas accurately in short texts
• spell common everyday words correctly
• complete simple forms
• find information quickly in read short simple texts and understand their general meaning

By the end of this course you will also have improved your digital skills through use of Google Classroom, the internet and Microsoft Word.

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.

This will be an exciting and interesting course with lots of practice. You will work in pairs or small groups, and sometimes as a whole group. Your tutor will also work with you individually. There will be speaking and listening, reading, writing activities and games as well as the use of YouTube, an interactive whiteboard and computers to help your learning. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life. You will need to do some homework every week and use Google Classroom outside the class.

Course programme

You will practise reading, writing and speaking and listening but you will focus more on reading and writing for the exam. Each class will focus on a certain topic such as life in the UK, daily routine, healthy living, jobs, shopping, transport and different cultures. We will focus on:
• asking and answering everyday questions using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms
• talking and writing about everyday topics using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms
• describing and comparing objects and pictures
• listening for details in short conversations and recordings about everyday topics
• writing short emails or letters on everyday topics
• the use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and commas
• spelling of everyday words
• completing simple forms
• finding information and details in short texts and understanding their general meaning.

Additional information

There are many courses you can do after completing Entry 2. You can move to the next level, Entry 3. You can also do a course without an exam – for example Conversation and Pronunciation, Office Skills for ESOL students, ESOL and Singing, ESOL communicating at work: customer care (entry 3-level 1). Your tutor will advise you on the best course to do next.
