The course is an introduction to the basic processes and principles of etching. you will progressively accumulate line and texture using hard and soft ground techniques, and build up tonal values using aquatint, and experiment with printing your image in both monochrome and colour.

About this course
- Etch on metal using a variety of processes
- Prepare paper for printing
- Print plates in the intaglio method to a good standard in monochrome and colour
- Use the print room tools and equipment safely and effectively.
The course fee covers some basic materials such as inks, acids and white spirit. A limited amount of plate can be purchased at cost in the class. Rags for cleaning are always welcome. Please bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point to the first session.

Course programme
You will learn how to etch and develop an image on zinc plate using hard and soft ground techniques and apply a box and/or hand aquatint, and print your etchings in monochrome and colour. You will gain practical experience of the equipment and materials associated with etching.
Sessions are all studio based. Examples of the media will be shown and discussed. There will be practical demonstrations, followed by practical application supported by one-to-one guidance and written instructions.Additional information
