This intensive 10-week course offers a series of interactive modules covering all aspects of event management development including event design, types of events, programming, logistics and planning, marketing, event team management, budget and finance, contracts and legal issues, risk assessments, health and safety, ethics, sustainability and event evaluation. In addition, students will explore essential parts of event communications including public relations, online communications and social media.
This progressive course in event management is designed to provide all the core and vital skills, with an essential understanding in which to apply to real-life briefs. Delivered by leading industry and academic professional who brings many years of successful experience in a broad range of events, this course is also suitable for those who may be interested in studying on our BA (Hons) Creative Events Management course.
Students will work on sample and historic briefs to develop practical and specific event management skills that can be applied to real-world situations. Students will gain and develop an understanding of a broad range of event types and prepare simulated event briefs, in order to develop a broad portfolio of events.
Course projects will provide confidence and ability to take on and create events of any nature. A combination of case studies, interactive group sessions, presentations, and questions and answers will provide and offer transferrable skills and invaluable experience to real-life situations, which will prepare students for a successful future in organising high quality and engaging events. It also includes sessions devoted to developing pitch and presentation skills.
This course will guide students through all of the stages of creating and planning an event, finally producing an event pitch which can be used as a template for future event management proposals.

The course aims to:
Define event management
Explain what event management is
Provide understanding of the need for planning events
Provide understanding of the main tasks involved and the roles and responsibilities of the event manager
Allow students to learn the basic elements of an event management plan
To provide an overview of event safety planning and risk assessment
To allow students to create a check-list of event management planning elements for future use
