Course programme

On successful completion of Year 1 you will achieve a Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality.  In Year 2 you will achieve an Extended Diploma in Hospitality.

 

What qualifications do I need?

• 5 GCSE passes (A-C) preferably to include English and Maths, or a relevant NVQ or an Intermediate programme, or relevant work experience
• All applicants must have a successful interview 

What’s involved?

The programme will focus on the principles of hospitality and events management rather than more traditional hospitality and catering programmes which focus on practical cooking and food preparation skills.

Areas of study will include:

  • Understanding the hospitality and events management industry
  • Principles and practice of customer service 
  • Marketing
  • Events organisation and management

You will also be expected to undertake work placement in the events industry.

How will I be studying?

The programme involves a broad range of teaching and learning including lectures, workshops, guest speakers and trips. You can expect a practical approach to your studies and you will be required to undertake independent study and additional research. All units are portfolio assessed. The assessments are designed to be practical and vocationally relevant, involving independent research and will include reports, presentations, individual and group work.

Where can I move on to after this course?

On successful completion of this course you can enter directly into the world of work. A career in a range of industries such as hotels and restaurants, conference centres and event organisations. Alternatively, after successful completion of Year 2, you could progress to Higher Education on an HND, Foundation Degree or Degree programme.
