• Overview

The purpose of this module is to give you greater understanding of the crucial role of evidence-based practice in clinical governance.

Evidence-based health care is the use of 'best' evidence to influence the decisions practitioners make when caring for patients. This evidence can come from research, clinical experience, personal knowledge, patient preference or a combination of any of these.

The goal of evidence-based health care is to promote safe and effective practice while improving practitioner confidence within a continuous learning environment.

This module explores the central debates and challenges surrounding evidence-based practice and helps you to examine the development evidence-based health care in relation to your own practice.

The module aims to:

• Enable you to search for and identify different types of evidence in the context of healthcare provision
• Equip you with the skills to critically analyse different types of evidence for relevance and quality
• Enable you to develop the skills to review and critically analyse evidence and its application to practice and policy development using a continuous process of reflection in applying this knowledge to advance their practice
• Enable you to complete an evidence-informed practice project relevant to your interests and practice setting.

This module can be taken as part of the BSc Nursing Studies top up degree. If you wish to complete a top-up degree, please apply directly on the Nursing Studies programme webpage. If you would still like to complete this module as a CPPD student but would like to complete a top-up degree at a later date, please note that you will only be able to transfer a maximum of 30 credits which have been awarded within 5 years prior to the start date of the programme (top-up degree). Entry requirements for BSc Health Sciences (online) programme:

• 120 Level 4 credit points and 120 Level 5 credit points in healthcare related subjects

Entry requirements for study as a stand-alone module:

• Current registration with a professional and regulatory body (healthcare)

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English, the following qualification is also required:

• IELTS: 7.0

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.
