To explore experimental silkscreen printing, students will learn how to make different types of screen-prints using
various techniques. Students will learn how to silkscreen print on to paper and other surfaces, gaining a good
understanding of how to register and make interesting overprinted layers in a combination of colours. Making artwork
employing different methods and images and silkscreen printing in a combination of ways.
• cutting and tearing paper stencils
• coating the stretch screen with a photo sensitive emulsion
• photo graphics and hand drawn design that can then be exposed on to photo sensitive screens
• adding a wax resist /making wax rubbing,
• applying wax using a wax ‘tjanting’ or painting onto the screen using a brush.

Coat the screen with photo sensitive emulsion
• Expose art work onto the screen
• Manipulate images in Photoshop and create art work to put on to the screen
• Add a wax resist employing a tjanting tool or by painting wax directly on to the screen
• Print through the screen using a squeegee to make printed designs
• Make art work by being able Register and overprint employing different methods and images
• Silkscreen print in a combination of different ways, and in an arrangement of colours.
All basic materials are provided. You should bring to the first class, sources of imagery to be used for reference /
visual inspiration (sketches, magazine cutting, on-going work etc.) as a way in to starting personal projects.
Demonstrations will be given to enable you to understand the techniques and instructions will be given on how to
use the equipment.

• Preparing art work by scanning and manipulating images on the computer using Photoshop
