Fabrication & Welding (PEO) NVQ Level 2

About the course:
This is a basic engineering award that consists of eight units covering both essential units and specialist units in Fabrication and Welding. This course is the natural progression from level one.

The course is offered as a day release so ideal for apprenticeships or employers training new and existing staff.

Course Content:
Essential Units
· Working safely in an engineering environment
· Developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities
· Identifying and selecting engineering materials
· Using and communicating technical information
Specialist Units
· Applying quality control in engineering activities
· Producing sheet metal components and assemblies
· Joining materials by welding
· Cutting materials using oxy-fuel gas cutting equipment
There is also a basic introduction to Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded Welding (TAGS) or Metal Arc Gas Shielded Welding (MAGS)

Equipment Requirements:
The student must provide their own personal safety wear - i.e. boots, safety overalls

Assessment:
Practical workshop activities and skills and theory classroom work

Progression:
Progression is to the C&G 2800 Level 3 Certificate in Engineering (Fabrication and Welding) which is a 2year programme

Additional Information:
To aid progression to the level 2 award the following Key Skills may also be studied:
· Application of Number Level 2
· Communication Level 2
· Information Technology Level 2
