This is a highly rewarding creative subject to study, designed for students who are interested in a career within the fashion and textile industries. The course introduces the processes, concepts and ideas associated with fashion and textiles. You will gain skills in a wide range of subjects including design, pattern cutting and making, printed textiles, fabric manipulation, surface pattern design, fashion marketing and CAD. The course runs over two years and is equivalent to 3 A-levels.

What you need to know
How will I study?

Across both years you will explore garment construction, fashion designing based on both self identified briefs and set briefs, textile techniques and fabric manipulation along with supporting written assignments. In year 1 you will study visual recording, fashion and textile materials, techniques and processes, contextual influences in design and fashion, computer related design for fashion, repeat and surface pattern, printed textiles for fashion and fashion presentation techniques. In year 2 there will be an opportunity to specialise in your final major project, although all students will study personal and professional development, fashion visualisation, specialist textile techniques and fabric manipulation.
How will I be taught?

You will mainly be taught through projects and, as a general rule, each project will focus on at least two or three units. Parts of each of the units will be embedded within each of the projects delivered throughout the two years. The range of projects will be diverse and range from observation and presentations to essays and written assignments. These will be help develop your practical ability, together with written and research skills.
How will I be assessed?

The range of assessment will be diverse and range from observation, presentations and essays/written assignments, to sketchbook submission and garment production. Each project will be graded and developmental feedback given in order to support your development and for you to develop your grades.
