You’ll build a portfolio of skills and knowledge that will give you a strong grounding in fashion business practices and the application of innovative thinking in a commercial context.
About this course
This new MA builds on the success of the BA (Hons) Fashion Management & Marketing course at UCA Epsom and provides a learning environment where you can develop both creative and strategic skills in fashion business, management and marketing.
You’ll be taught the core principles of fashion business and management through a range of approaches, including lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops, and will undertake both formative and summative assessment including reflective personal blogs and journals.
The course will support you in developing your practice through relevant research, a deep understanding of how the fashion industry operates, and engagement with global fashion brands, in order to plan and produce a major project that is unique to you.
Running throughout the course is a strong emphasis on both independent research and participatory group work. If you’re a full time student, you’ll have scheduled teaching for up to two days a week, as well as access to workshops and studios for a further three days (as agreed with your tutor). You’ll also have access to the industry lectures and workshops that form part of the wider postgraduate programme around the culture of design, fashion and business.
Our Masters course will help you to develop the skills needed to work at a high level in fashion brand management and operations management, as well as within entrepreneurial fashion business ventures.
Our Postgraduate programmes share a dedicated MA base room and ample workshop spaces. The course also offers both a nurturing learning environment and a strong business-facing culture, enriched by our close connections with the fashion industry, and you’ll develop the skills needed to work at a high level in fashion business and management when you graduate.

Course stages-
The Fashion Live Project
In this unit, you will work on a live industry project in order to test your current skill base and enable you to begin to identify with the dynamics of the fast-paced fashion business environment. The course team will ensure that the businesses used in this unit are specifically fashion related and that they meet the core values of the University.

The Fashion Business Lecture Series
This unit allows you to explore contemporary business practices central to todays global fashion industry. It will allow you to build a portfolio of knowledge pertinent to your chosen area of fashion business.

Creative Thinking
This unit is about creative thinking for fashion business. It introduces you to definitions and concepts of creativity. It allows you to explore what creativity is and reflect methods of creativity with concepts of taste, consumer need as well as user interface. Throughout this unit you will be required to implement creative processes using various techniques connected with the development of creative skills.

Digital Communications and Fashion PR
You'll examine the important role of research and evaluation in PR practices. This will involve analysing and evaluating digital communication, which is used for advertising, marketing and public relations. You'll also develop your own framework to use for planning your analysis and evaluation of digital communication.

Future Trends and Fashion Brands
This unit explores the role and purpose of trend forecasting as a basis to explore new fashion trends and their
impact on todays global market place. You'll be expected to critique and develop methods of prediction and research mechanisms to create your own projections and inform fashion trend insight.

Course stages-
Ideas Development and Business Proposal
This unit will focus on fashion practice research and analysis and you will be required to define and develop individual fashion concepts for business proposals. Your research and practice will be directed and guided by a project proposal in which you negotiate and review your business management practice with your tutors.

Project Management and Business Pitch
This is the development stage of the business proposal, where you begin to develop your concepts, build your strategic plans and finally pitch your business proposal to an industry panel as well as academics.

Final Fashion Business Project (Production and Realisation)
The Final Fashion Business Project unit is the culmination of your studies and will form a framework for the central ideas and concepts developed throughout your MA. The outcome will demonstrate evidence of advanced conceptual, theoretical and technical capability over an extended period of self-directed study.
