About the FdEd Early Childhood Studies programme
Students will develop academic knowledge and its application to practice such as the link between child policy and performance within early childhood settings. Students pursuing this degree will be working or intending to work within a variety of childhood settings, and will have the opportunity of progressing onto the final year of a BA Early Childhood Studies.
Students will need Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) clearance. The Institute will send further instructions on DBS as part of the admissions process where relevant.

Entry requirements For 2017 entry onwards: applicants require 80 UCAS points at A' Level, Level 3 CACHE Diploma (or equivalent) or an Access to HE Diploma. For those students who intend to become Early Years Educators, it is important to note that due to Governmental changes, GCSE Maths and English will be compulsory at grade C or above. All applicants will be counselled individually via interview. In line with the widening participation brief, the Institute encourages applications from those who lack academic qualifications. All such applicants will be interviewed, set a 1500 word essay and a judgement made taking into account their academic potential and relevant experience. This programme may involve regular contact with children, young people and families including vulnerable adults and as such an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check must be completed prior to attending. Programme Benefits Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue a new career, or advance an existing one within management and leadership roles in early years settings. Graduates will be able to pursue roles within the school sector such as learning support and education administration, private sector nurseries, children's centres and community support pre-school and teaching, day care centres, child minders, family day care, out of hours clubs, child development and management positions within the early years. Graduates will also be able to continue their studies by taking the BA Early Childhood Studies Top Up. Learning & Teaching Methods Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, seminars, workshops, student led discussions, directed learning tasks, experiential learning scenarios, presentations and debates. Integrating a work-based or placement opportunity, students will be visited in the workplace by a member of Institute staff to ensure a positive partnership between the employer mentor and to monitor that learning in the workplace is effective. Workplace learning is designed to support the development of an employable graduate equipped with the attributes, skills and knowledge to progress within a global market.
