The AS/A2 syllabus in Film Studies is designed to deepen students' understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film, the major art form of the twentieth century You will study Cinema as a medium, as an art form and as a social and economic institution

How to analyse and interrogate film texts with reference to film language, narrative, genre and institution You will also explore the relationship between film producers and audiences and how this relationship has altered over time At A2 you will develop and apply your core knowledge to various film texts including those from World Cinema, Documentary and popular film
How will I be assessed?At AS level 20% of the course is coursework where you are required to complete an analysis of a chosen extract and a creative storyboard for an original film 30% of the course is exam based where you will cover topics: Producers and Audiences, British Film Genre: Horror and US Film At A2 25% of the course is coursework based where you will complete a Small Scale Research Project and a Short Film or Screenplay the rest of the course is exam based: Urban Stories, Single Film Study and Spectatorship
What may it lead to?Many students have gone onto Film and Media related courses at University to obtain a range of vocational and academic qualifications
