About this course

Step into the film industry and practice and acquire the skills of a filmmaking professional with world class instructors. Connect with fellow filmmakers and industry professionals during your in-course networking events.

The course is aimed mainly at individuals that have a basic understanding of film making and film production. The course is also intended for qualified film studies students now looking to back up their experience with an official title.

Certificate of Completion

This is a brand new course and therefore features the very latest in filmmaking skills. It has been created by a world famous screen writer and director, John Boorman. His work includes "Deliverance", "Excalibur", "The General", and most recently "Queen and Country". John has a new film "Halfway House" in the pipeline.

On receiving your request, you will automatically receive a course brochure. A Student Advisor will also contact you to explain everything about this course, including how you can sign up, payment options and enrolment periods.

Class sizes are limited to ensure a high quality of instruction and engagement.

Students will be given a course folder with comprehensive notes to bring home. They will also be invited to join the Irish Film School Alumni Association where they can continue to network with fellow students and instructors.

John Boorman

Screen Writer and Film Director

John is best known for his feature films such as Point Blank, Deliverance, Excalibur, The General, The Tailor of Panama and Queen and Country. John is a published author and has been a contributor and editor to numerous editions of Projections, a series of books published by Faber & Faber (UK) which presents filmmakers reflections on their craft. He has been the recipient of 5 Academy Award nominations, twice for Best Director (for Deliverance and Hope and Glory). has worked with international talent for over two decades, including Samuel L Jackson, Pierce Brosnan and Kim Cattrall.

Course programme

  • This practical, hands-on, immersive course in directing and contemporary filmmaking will bring you through the creative process of filmmaking from script to screen.
  • You will learn the art of screenwriting, storyboarding, scheduling, casting, directing, lighting, camera work, sound recording and digital editing.
  • At this end of this course you will have the necessary skills to make a short film for your business or for pleasure.
