MA (Hons) Fine Art is an undergraduate five-year degree that, unlike many Fine Art degrees, has an equal split between the study of art history and studio based art practice. In the first two years you study core courses in Art and History of Art alongside a choice of courses offered by ECA or other Schools in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. In History of Art we have specialists in global art, including Chinese and Islamic, which you will study alongside the Italian renaissance, Impressionism and contemporary art. In Art you will experience the expanded field of art practice in first year and be allocated a studio tutor in second year whose studio practice is related to your interests. In third and fourth years you will chose from a range of specialised topics in History of Art and develop a more independent approach to your studio practice in Art. In your final year you will write a 10,000 word dissertation on a research topic of your own choosing and develop a body of art work for the degree show exhibition.
