Objectives

On completion of this course the participants will be able to

1. Understand the causes, nature and chemistry of fire

2. Understand the causes and nature of fire spread

3. Understand the need for fire prevention

4. Understand and carry out basic fire prevention inspection

5. Understand the need to involve the emergency services

6. Understand the need for safe evacuation of the premises

7. Understand the need for accounting for all personnel

8. Understand the types and uses of fire extinguishers

9. Demonstrate the safe use of various fire extinguishers

Course content

• nature and causes of fire
• nature of fire spread within premises
• fire prevention techniques
• practical premises inspection
• the role of the onsite fire marshal/warden
• premises evacuation and assembly
• identification and safe use of different types of fire extinguishers
• practical use of fire extinguishers

The course utilises presentation, videos and practical sessions in fire hazard spotting and fire extinguisher use.
