The St Monica Trust has developed a range of courses to promote health and safety best practice with a specific focus on the issues and situations facing employees in a care home and social care environment.
The course programme has been developed to meet the core needs of the first aider in the workplace. The candidate will receive a current version of a first aid manual and a minimum of 28 hours contact time, which includes training in the following:
- Communication in an emergency.
- Scene management.
- Recognition of illness.
- Record keeping.
- Personal hygiene.
- HIV and Hepatitis B/C in first aid.
- Adult resuscitation.
- Control of severe bleeding and the recognition and treatment of shock.
- Managing the unconscious person.
- Burns and scalds.
- Injuries to bones and soft tissue.
- Minor injuries.
- Eye irrigation.
- Poisoning.
- Transport of casualties.
4 full days – NB: All 4 days must be attended.
Full day courses usually run from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
