Description of the Course
This course enables you to develop your practical skills in Art and Design and Multimedia. The main focus of the course is in drawing and painting, two and three-dimensional artwork, with additional units in graphic design and multimedia computing. Written work closely supports practical study.
Course content
The main elements of the course are:

· Drawing, painting and other traditional visual studies
· Two dimensional design work and Three dimensional and craftwork
· Graphic design and photography
· Multimedia computing
· Skills development
· History of art and design
· The business aspect of professional art and design work
· Group and individual tutorial

The course provides a thorough, broad based introduction to the above areas, and when successfully completed is nationally recognised as being an equivalent to 4 GCSE's at Grade C.

Students may take additional qualifications at the same time as studying on this course, normally additional GCSEs (either new or resits). Opportunities to work towards Key Skills offered as part of the programme.

The course is based in the college's purpose built Creative Industries area, which incorporates the newly redesigned art & design area, including printmaking and pottery areas, and multimedia suite.

Assessment
Most of the course is continuously assessed and you will receive feedback every 6 weeks. Some units are externally assessed by a final major project in the summer term. For coursework, students have to produce written reports, and evaluations showing evidence of planning research and organisation.
Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at those who have some experience of Art & Design or Multimedia/ Graphic Design, either from GCSE or from personal interest, who wish to progress to a National Diploma course or other equivalent course.

What can I do after this course?
On completion students have the opportunity to progress onto a BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design or Multimedia within the college.
