Course Overview
This course will help you to decide your chosen art and design specialism in preparation for your future progression. You will explore a wide variety of hands-on creative subjects that will develop and build your natural artistic abilities. You will undertake a range of projects that include, and combine, photography, drawing, sculpture, three-dimensional design, printmaking, textiles and surface design, graphic visual communication, illustration, and painting.
You are encouraged to take an experimental and open minded approach to exploring ideas which challenge and develop creative thinking and making skills. You will be guided about the direction of your work so that you grow in confidence and you will be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses through regular one to one meetings with your tutor. This will enable you to develop your skills and learn quickly, allowing plenty of opportunities for you to achieve your creative potential.
You will be taught by art and design specialists and practitioners who use their breadth of knowledge and experience to support your studies. We have great facilities here at Croydon School of Art; photographic dark rooms, print studio, plaster casting studio, 3D workshop, film studio, drawing studio, many Mac suites, and video and film editing facilities with great technical support.
Please note that the college will provide some materials and equipment whilst you study. However, there is an expectation of additional material costs of approximately £30 per term. Day trips to galleries and other places of interest usually cost between £25-30 within the year. You may be eligible for a bursary and this should cover the cost of equipment.
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview.
Please note advance applications for September 2016 for this course have now closed. However, you can still come in to apply and enrol during our open enrolment period between Tuesday 30 August and Friday 9 September. .
