The course consists of a 1 day clinical skills workshop at our Central London venue and taught home learning for the communication and professionalism aspects.

Teaching

This is a taught course, in which each student is guided by a personal tutor; in this way students benefit from the ability to choose when and where they study with the support of a mentor/tutor. Each programme teaches a range of recognised legal and ethical codes which dental professionals must observe and enables students to embed GDC and Quality of Care regulations into every day practice activities.

About this course

To qualify dental nurses to apply fluoride in line with Scope of practice requirements.
To enable dental nurses to play an active role in patient care
To enable dental nurses to play an active role in patient education

Qualified and registered Dental Nurses working in general dental practice. able to complete a portfolio of at least 10 patients to show competence. This must be witnesses and signed by a supervising dentist.

This course is for qualified and GDC registered Dental Nurses which must have the support of the practice and a supervising Dentist

Course programme

In collaboration with Dawood and Tanner Academy we offer training for extended duties dental nursing

You will learn the importance of safe and effective oral health education and helpful ways to introduce this to patients . You will also brush up on your knowledge of the preventive role of topical fluoride.

The course covers the following areas:

• Anatomy and Physiology

• Professionalism in Practice

• Oral Health Promotion

• Cross Infection Control

• Health and Safety

• Dental Caries

• Fluoride

• Portfolio Building

After completing the course you will be required with the guidance of your supervising dentist to build a portfolio of 10 patients to show your competence . Once verified, you will be awarded your certificate of competence in topical fluoride application and examination you will need to complete a portfolio of 10 patients in order to show your competence, which needs to be witnessed and signed by a supervising dentist. Once this has been received and is satisfactory a competence certification will be awarded.

Additional information

This course will provide the practical and theoretical knowldge and skills needed in order for dental nurses to cometently apply topical fluoride to adult and child patients.

Course Fee

Course fees can be paid by instalment on request. On booking you will need to pay a £50.00 deposit when you book your course.  The remainder of your course fee will be paid on invoice in one or up to 4 payments on request. The examination fee is included in the course fee, so there will not be any additional fees to pay.
