In this one-day course we delve into the ‘genius’ of Michelangelo and its development from his early years learning sculpture in the garden of the Medici family to his final years expressing his passionate love of God. We look at how his patrons and major cultural events shaped the path of his career and how he fought against them in order to forge his way as an individual. We will also consider the myths that surround the life and work of Michelangelo to see how they have impacted our understanding of his place in art history.
