About this course

Students will be aged 18 and over and should hold a National Certificate or National Diploma in Electronic Engineering, relevant A Levels or an equivalent Level 3 or 4 qualification.
Applications are also welcome from people who have relevant industrial experience and other suitable education/training.

The Programme
If you have a mindset to make connections between principles and practical systems then this programme is for you! The modules that have been assembled to make up the programme are designed to be challenging and to establish a knowledge base suitable for a career in the Electronics industry or support services. It has been identified that staff who have developed these skills at this level have a direct impact on a company's bottom line.
The Programme Content
The course has a common core of study skills, analytical methods, organisational behaviour, CAD, project work and work based learning.
The Electronics and Communication pathway includes Electronics, Electrical Principles, Instrumentation, Control Principles, Micro-electronics, Electronic and Microprocessor & Communication Systems.
Assessment is through a combination of assignments, in course assessments and end of module examinations. The major project is industry based and is acknowledged as exceptional by both academics and industry.
Entry Requirements
Mode of Study
Part time three years.
Timetabled Days
One day per week plus work related learning and project work.
Costs
Students are required to purchase their own core texts and the following equipment:
Scientific calculator with complex number function (Casio FX991MS preferred).
USB Flash (pen) drive (512 Mb minimum).
Access to a computer and mathematics software package when not in college is advantageous.
There is a small charge towards photocopying and stationery.
Progression Careers
Upon successful completion students can progress to Stage 3 BSc (Hons) Degree at the University of Plymouth. Alternatively students can register for Stage 3 BSc (Hons) Mechanical Design and Manufacture or Stage 3 BSc (Hons) Electro-Mechanical design delivered at the college on a part time basis.
Many graduates find themselves working at Incorporated Engineer level. Incorporated Engineers often work alongside chartered engineers on technological innovation.
