What will I be learning?

You will undertake the following essential units: working safely in a marine engineering environment, working efficiently and effectively in marine engineering, Using and communicating marine technical information.

Additional units for marine engineers are: maintaining mechanical devices and equipment, wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits, producing components using hand fitting techniques.

How will I learn?

You will be assessed completing a range of practical tasks with the evidence collected into a portfolio. Practical tasks will be delivered in a fully equipped workshop. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in well equipped specialist classrooms and ITC suites.

What else might I want to know?

This Level 2 qualification provides the ideal foundation for entrants into a wide range of engineering occupations specialising in marine. The qualification is developed to meet the needs of the marine engineering industry now and into the future. The programme will enable you to have an essential and interesting insight into the marine engineering.

The Marine Engineering Section runs an exciting enrichment programme throughout the year. This includes team building events, visits to trade shows and marine engineering events.

Opportunity to improve literacy and numeracy is given as Key Skills are an integral part of this qualification.

You will need to provide overalls and safety boots for workshop sessions as well as writing and drawing equipment for theory based sessions.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of this programme, you can progress into employment as an Apprentice with a suitable employer. This is a perfect starting point for your future rewarding career.
