Every day you are bombarded by graphic design messages. Whether they take the form of memorable advertisements or illustrations in a book, graphic arts are all around you. The course is rooted in practice rather than theory.
The aims of the programme are:
Through practice you will learn the key principles that define graphic arts, amongst them the skill of seeing, translating what you see and developing your thoughts through a design process.
The course will facilitate the discovery and development of your strengths within the design arena, helping you choose a preferred specialism in either; graphic design, illustration, advertising, motion graphic design, brand consultancy, design consultancy, or studio management.

. What are the entry requirements? 160 UCAS points (64 points under the new tariff). Students are also accepted who have appropriate non-standard entry qualifications and/or relevant experience. We will normally expect applicants to evidence a number of the following: BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design or similar art qualification; GNVQ Advanced in Art and Design; professional experience, freelance or industrial; Entry onto the FdA Graphic Arts course will be via a successful interview, relevant design qualifications either 'AS' and 'A2' level, BTEC National Diploma, or GNVQ (level 3) or an equivalent qualification in relevant areas. All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your date for your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application. Foundation Entry If you are keen to study this programme but do not meet the entry requirements, take a look at the Foundation Entry route: Design (Foundation Entry) - BA (Hons).. Career Path You will be prepared for employment across a range of design related areas such as graphic design, illustration, motion graphics, web based media, publication and advertising.. What can I do if I complete this course? Successful completion of this degree will give you skills that are underpinned by a sound practical and theoretical base that will advance your career prospects. All students that successfully complete this degree (part-time or full-time) will have the opportunity to progress onto the BA (Top Up) in Graphic Arts.. Duration Two years, full time / three years, part time. Cost You don’t need cash to enrol on a course. Tuition fee loans cover university or college tuition fees and are paid direct to the university or college, by Student Finance England. They are available to all eligible students regardless of household income. The amount you pay back is dependent on how much you earn and not how much you owe and you won’t need to start paying them back until you are earning more than £21,000 per year. Student Loans will also help to support your living costs.
