Health and safety is a fundamental factor not only within the workplace but also within many areas of everyday life. The Foundation Degree in Health and Safety Management provides occupational health and safety practitioners with the key skills to fulfil this vital role.

The Foundation Degree will assist the development of key knowledge, skills and experience needed for practice.

It will provide students with an extensive grounding in health and safety management skill within the appropriate industry sector and also develop skills in specialist areas.

Course content:

Level 1 - Year 1
Personal Development 1 (40 Credits)
Human Factors and Behaviour (40 Credits)
Management of Health and Safety 1 (20 Credits)
Controlling Workplace Hazards (20 Credits)

Level 2 - Year 2
Occupational Health & Hygiene (40 Credits)
Personal Development 2 (40 Credits)
Health & Safety Legislation and Responsibilities (20 Credits)
Management of Health & Safety 2 (20 Credits)

Time and dates for Year 2 to be arranged.

Course structure:
This is a two-year part-time programme for those who are currently have health and safety responsibilities or practice health and safety in the workplace. It's designed to fit alongside your work. Some of the modules involve you completing projects in the workplace.

You can expect a variety of teaching methods including lecturing, small group work, one-to-one tutorials and self-directed learning.

Assessment procedure:
Assessment is through a written assessment and workplace based safety assessment.

Modules are worth 20 or 40 credits each.
