Entry Requirements
This degree has a particular work based focus and is designed to meet the needs of students already in employment within the retail sector. A minimum of the equivalent of 120 UCAS credit points. e.g. A combination of A, AS and/or AVCE Levels with at least 1 Grade D or Higher at A2 Level, together with a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at Grade C or above, including English and Mathematics or equivalent (e.g. Key Skills Level 2) a BTEC National Diploma with a minimum of three Pass grades including Maths a BTEC National Certificate with a minimum of one M and one P grade including Maths in the absence of GCSE Maths at grade C a minimum of 4 passes at Grade CCDD or above in the Irish Leaving Higher Certificate plus IO Maths and English at grade C a minimum of 3 passes at Grade C or above in the Scottish Highers an overall average of 45% including maths at 45% in an approved Access course equivalent/other qualification(s) deemed appropriate by the Admission Tutor students over 21 with no formal qualifications may be offered a place subject to the course directors approval.

Course Content
The new Foundation Degree in Retail is a unique and valuable qualification for the Retail Sector. The programme was developed using the National Sector Skills Council (Skillsmart Retail) framework, in consultation with leading retail organisations, ensuring that the award adds value to your CV and the sector. It will reward you with improved chances of career progression, both within and outside the retail industry. The course is made up of twelve units over two years. All units in Year 1 are compulsory; there is an option in Year 2. There are three semesters in each year. Year 1 Personal and Professional Development 1 Retail Environment Managing Information Retail Operations Consumer Behaviour In-Store Customer Marketing Year 2 Manage and Develop People in Retail Work Based Learning Retail Law Manage Retail Customer Service Supply Chain Management Leadership in Retail

Course Aims
The aim of the Foundation in Retail is to reward students with improved chances of career progression, both within and outside the retail industry. On successful completion of the programme, your career is likely to develop within major retailers as store managers, marketing executives, retail supervisors, or buyers, or working as a marketing executive for organisations who manufacture products for retailers. Because of the general leadership and management principals involved in this course, it will also enhance career progression in management roles outside the Retail Sector.

Progression Routes
On successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress to a full honours degree in for example retail, marketing or business. This will normally involve a one year top up at university e.g. the University of Ulster.
