This course is for student and mature adults who wish to either further their education by obtaining a degree in Sports Development and Coaching or for mature adults to validate their existing experience
What qualifications or experience do I need ?You require 160 UCAS points from either two A 'Levels (or equivalent in sport) You should also have 5 GCSE's at grade C or above which include English and Maths. Mature students need to demonstrate through interview their experience and suitability for the course
What will I study ?The course will be delivered through :- Interactive lectures to promote a student centred approach to the learning process, together with real life examples, seminars, and guest speakers from the industry Visits will include sports development events and the ASPIRE fully inclusive centre sport development initiatives and a national sports event to look at their marketing and to understand the sports development concepts. The use of role play where students will have to act as sports managers and marketing personnel with an agreed budget. There will be Fifteen hours of contact per week
How will I be assessed ?Assessment will be both formative and summative A.Formative 1. Indiviudal and group presentations on key organisations, Government policies NGB's, legislations and management concepts 2. Discussions on current issues relating to sports development (eg school sports programme) 3. Practical coaching sessions B.Summative Comprehensive essays, presentations,10 week coaching programme, individual coaching sessions

Further InformationThis BA Degree or Foundation degree is for those who want a career in Sports Development or coaching as the course emphasis is on engaging participation from all target groups, enabling them to not only participate but to be able to reach their full potential in sport and physical activities. It will give you the skills, knowledge and ability to run your own coaching sessions, events and potentially your own business. You will also learn to understand trends in community sport and physical activity within the context of government policies. You will acquire the skills and knowledge to be a strategic thinker and planner learning how sports development and physical activity can be used to regenerate and develop communities' cohesion. You will study coaching and sports development principles and will have continuous opportunities to put these into practise.
