Notker the Stammerer. In this interactive lecture-based course, we will examine letters and legal documents to reveal fascinating people, places and aspirations.

About this course
- describe the main events in Merovingian/Carolingian history;
- explain the significance of Merovingian/Carolingian culture in early medieval Europe;
- explain the importance of Gregory of Tours and his continuators in their presentation of their history;
- assess the extent of Merovingian/Carolingian influence on Gaul and the wider European scene fro the 5th
century.
Although there is no requirement to buy anything, you might wish to buy a book or make a visit following a recommendation. These costs are not covered by the course fee.
Most sessions involve the tutor leading in with a prepared talk or lecture, often illustrated with a pictorial presentation. There is ample opportunity for discussion of issues or problems raised. As the course progresses learners are encouraged to take an increasing part in the learning process, especially with regard to asking questions and discussing aspects of the topics covered.
