Year 1

Currently, students study the following core and compulsory modules. If there are options available the current choices are also shown. King's reviews its optional modules on a regular basis, in order to continue to offer innovative and exciting programmes and this list is therefore subject to change. When studying French at King's College London your first year will comprise the following modules.

Required Modules

• Core French Language (30 credits)
• Introduction to French Literature (30 credits)

Students are also required to take 60 credits from a range of optional modules which typically include:

• French Narrative Texts: An Introduction (15 credits)
• Subjects & Selves: An Introduction to French Thought (15 credits)
• Text & Performance: An Introduction to French Theatre & Film (15 credits)
• Revolution & Reaction in Modern France: An Introduction to Modern French History (15 credits)
• French Political Thought (15 credits)

King's reviews its optional modules on a regular basis in order to continue to offer innovative and exciting programmes. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that any particular optional module will run in a given year and the options listed below are subject to change.

Year 2

You will take the core and compulsory modules outlined plus six optional modules.

Required Modules:

• Core French Language (15 credits)
• The Practice of Translation (15 credits)

You will also take sufficient credits to bring the total for the year to 120 credits, from a range of options modules which may typically include:

• Death and Desire: Love in French Literature before 1700 (15 credits)
• Writing the Self since 1700 in French Literature 
(15 credits)
• French poetry since 1800
 (15 credits)
• Comedy in French Literature before 1700 
(15 credits)
• The French Novel since 1700
 (15 credits)
• Modernity and the City 
(15 credits)
• Modern French History
 (15 credits)

Year 3

Your third year of study will be spent abroad at one of our partner institutions, which include:

Year 4

In your final year, you will study French Language as a required module in addition to a further seven optional modules to bring your total credits to 120 for the year.
