Course Content
Students are invited to bring one or two small pieces to work on ie small box, table, stool etc.
Day One
Commences with assessment and discussion of students proposed pieces. Students are taught correct procedure for stripping, neutralising, staining and polishing. You will start with stripping off old finish, and neutralising. Whilst waiting for work to dry, you will identify various woods and discuss different types of stains and their limitations, and appropriate finish for each. Students will be taught the various finishes appropriate to the type of wood and the period of the pieces, and how to restore finishes where required with a discussion on alternative finishes, their application and use.
Day Two
Continues with polishing work brought in. Those students who have brought in pieces to be wax finished will be encouraged to try a sample board of french polishing.
Course Day
The course starts at 9.00 am and finishes at approximately 4.30 pm each day. Lunch and refreshment breaks take place in line with the course schedule.
