About this course

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above, or an Intermediate GNVQ or First
Diploma in Art and Design. You will be required to submit a portfolio of work, which
demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for the subject. Mature candidates without the
necessary entry qualifications, but with a strong portfolio and evidence from initial assessment of ability to work at Level 3, will be considered.

Course Description:
This is an excellent course to take if you wish to study interior design or train as an interior designer, stage designer, landscape designer or as a visual merchandiser. You will learn to build a strong portfolio of work that crosses a range of skills and media applicable to spatial design. Added to this, students may also work on 'live' projects for real clients.
Course Content:
You will study a variety of spatial design-related subjects, such as:
· modelmaking
· working with clients
· visualisation
· spatial awareness
· CAD.
You will also learn design principles and a range of skills relating to the articulation of space through the use of perspective drawings. Presentation skills and historical and contextual studies will also be included. As in all Art and Design areas, the course is underpinned by sound observational drawing skills.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment, participation in an exhibition and a final end of year project.
Next Steps:
This course will provide you with the training necessary to progress to either HND or Degree level study in interior or set design or into employment in visual merchandising in the interior design sector or related area.
