Introduction
The course divides clearly into two units. Two units are completed during AS and the further two are completed during A". Unit one, coursework portfolio: painting, media, colour theory, exploration, research and acquisition of techniques and skills. Unit 2 controlled assignments: work towards your exam. Your tutor will work with you on an individual basis.

Description
AS level is both a 'stand-alone' qualification and also the first half of an A Level. The full A level may be taken over 2 years - or in one year if you have suitable previous experience. The course is based in Fine Arts mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture and mixed media. The A2 units consist of 2 units, continued from AS - units 3 & 4. Unit 3, personal investigation: research and investigation into a chosen area of study, alongside practical work. This unit must include a related personal study between 1000 - 3000 words. Unit 4, controlled assignment: working towards the end of year practical exam.

Duration
AS one year/A2 a further year.

Method of Study
Studio practice and personal research. Assessment is by coursework, practical assignments and end of year exam.

Progression
A second year of study will allow you to complete the full A Level and progress to Higher Education or Art & Design Foundation Course.
