Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.
About the course:
This is a newly developed A Level qualification which comes on-line in September 2000.
For the AS course, you will study three separately assessed modules and carry out practical laboratory work, some of which will be assessed towards your AS qualifications:
* Unit 1: Structure, Bonding and main group Chemistry
* Unit 2: Introductory Organic Chemistry, Energetic Kinetics and Equilibrium and Application
* Unit 3: Laboratory Chemistry 1
The A2 course covers the following 3 units:
* Unit 4: Periodicity, Quantitative Equilibra and Functional Group Chemistry
* Unit 5: Transition metals, Quanititative Kinetics and Applied Organic Chemistry plus synoptic test
* Unit 6: Laboratory Chemistry 2 plus synoptic papers
Assessment:
Practical laboratory work, some of which will be assessed.
You will sit the AS examination in June, at the end of your first year. If you are successful, you can continue on to the A2 component in your second year of study. Lectures are supported by practical work in our well-equipped laboratories.
After the course:
After completing the AS course, you can go on to do the A2 course for a full A level qualification.
