Attendance
The timetable usually works out at 2.5 days a week in lessons plus 2.5 days in self directed study. At a one-to-one interview you select an individual timetable from a range of options available. This allows students to select a timetable that fits (as far as possible) around their own individual circumstances.

Course description
The aim of the course is to give mature learners a second chance at education which will facilitate access to Higher Educational programmes such as HNC/ HND Sports Science. The course also enables students to develop confidence, self-esteem and enhance their interpersonal skills. Timetable usually works out 9 hours per week in yr1, 5.5 hours per week in yr 2. To achieve the Access to HE Diploma, 60 Access credits are required, 45 of which must be at level 3.

All units are internally assessed and graded and internally and externally moderated. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Additionally you may be able to complete the following sports academy and enrichment programmes:

Course Assessment
There are varied types of assessment including essays, reports, oral presentations and discussion.

Course Entry requirements
A literacy and numeracy skill at Level 2 is required, but no other formal requirements exist for Access to HE Diploma courses. Your application and interview should highlight a mature approach and a desire to achieve.

To succeed on this course you should have good communication skills and a willingness to work hard.

Your literacy and numeracy skills must be at Level 2, with evidence either from existing English qualifications or from an Initial Assessment prior to interview.

Please note: This course is designed to meet the needs of students over the age of 19 and as such it is not funded for students aged between 16 and 19 when the course commences; although this age group is not excluded students will have to pay full fees, which are currently approximately £3,500.

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

Course Progression
On successful completion of the course you will be prepared for entry onto a HE programme, such as the HNC or HND Sports Science options offered at the College
