Physical Education AS/A2
This course is ideal for anyone who is interested in finding out more about the factors that influence physical education and whether or not people take part in sport. You will look at physical aspects of fitness and performance such as the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system and training methods. You will explore the effects of psychological influences such as teaching and learning theory and relaxation techniques on performance. You will also consider the ways that influences such as family and social background and the availability of facilities and financial support impact on an individual's sporting development.

The practical component to the course involves planning, performing and evaluating performance as a player and/or official or leader.

What will I study?
Throughout the course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the subject, and apply this through coursework and examination questions.

AS: In the first year you will look at the way in which performance is affected by physical and mental well-being and preparation, and the social and historical factors determining access to physical education and sports and recreation facilities.

A2: In the second year you will go on to look more closely at the development of physical and mental preparation for enhanced performance, and evaluate contemporary influences.

How will I be assessed?
AS: 1 written exam at the end of year one, plus coursework.

A2: 1 written exam at the end of year two, plus coursework.

What can I do next?
A level Physical Education students have gone on to higher education and careers in a wide range of areas including teaching, occupational therapy, nursing, radiography and sports and leisure management.
