About this course
Five C grades at GCSE overall, including GCSE Science. High grades in Maths and English are desirable. A very high level of commitment and initiative are necessary, to complete assignments and extend knowledge through research.

The Level 3 Certificate has three units and the Subsidiary Diploma has six. Students taking the Certificate or Subsidiary Diploma can choose to study the Welsh Baccalaureate.

- Working in the Science Industry
- Scientific Practical Techniques
Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma Certificate units plus:
- Perceptions of Science
- Application of Numbers for Science Technicians
- Mathematics for Science Technicians
- Using Science in the Workplace
Level 3 BTEC qualifications are A Level standard qualifications and attract the same UCAS points.
The Level 3 BTEC Certificate is equivalent to an AS Level.
The Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to an A Level.
The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma was formerly called the -National Award .

Duration
The Certificate lasts one year and the Subsidiary Diploma normally takes two years. A one-year -fast-track Subsidiary Diploma option is possible.
Qualifications gained
BTECs are graded on a Pass/Merit/Distinction scale. Pass is equivalent to E grade A Level. Merit is C grade and Distinction is A grade.
Assessment
Every unit is assessed by coursework, which takes the form of essays, practical reports, presentations, minuted discussions, etc. Most units have four assignments, which are divided into separate tasks " each with a deadline.
Progression
This is an ideal course for progression to Higher Education. Past students are studying for degrees in Medical Genetics, Biology, Paramedic Training, Forensic Science, Dental Technology, Criminology and Biochemistry
