You will normally need to have at least one of the following: Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Art, Design and Media A standard of literacy and numeracy at E3 or above supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades D-G Related work experience Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications.

This course is a good start for you to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification.

A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* to C.

Course Details:
This course is a very good way for you to develop your skills in design. The course will appeal to you if you are keen to develop your own particular interests and ideas when you are creating work. If you are interested in communicating views to an audience through different types of design work this course will develop your ability to do that.

It is not a requirement that you should have studied design before taking a First Diploma in Design.

Career Progression:
You may want to progress to a specialist BTEC National programme in Design or Interactive Media if you get Merit grades on your First Diploma. Alternatively you may progress into jobs in the design area such as work in art shops, framing studios, window or counter displays, or work in community arts projects.

Fees:
Students will be expected to purchase their own equipment and materials. This will include brushes, paint, pencils, sketchbooks, ruler and scissors. In addition to this, there will be a fee of 20 to cover the cost of consumable materials such as clay, glazes.

There will be 3 visits to galleries and museums during the course costing approx. 40.00.
