Art and Design: BTEC National Certificate/Diploma
This is a two-year course that prepares you for higher education in Art and Design or employment in a related industry. A BTEC National Certificate course can be combined with an AS/A2 level. It is equivalent to two A levels. In the second year, there is the option to transfer to the higher level diploma course, equivalent to three A levels.

You will study units that include drawing and painting, printmaking, graphics, fashion and textiles, work-related activities, working with technology and 3D design.

How is it assessed?
This course is assessed by a range of methods including projects, assignments, case studies, coursework and a final major project.

Course duration
Two years full-time.

What do I need to study this subject?
You should have five GCSE grades A*-C including Art and Design or a Merit/Distinction in BTEC First Art and Design.

Where can this lead me?
You can progress onto Foundation Studies or directly onto a specialist degree course. There are a range of careers available, including advertising, fashion/textile design, film and TV (post-production), interior design, fine art (such as painting, sculpture, print making), illustration, product design, photography and digital imaging, marketing/PR and multimedia/web design.
