Art, Design and Media skills will be mainly acquired through studio or workshop sessions. Please note that this course has been developed principally for 16-19 year old applicants and is therefore not ideally suited to mature students.

Art & Design First Diploma
This practical course is aimed at recent school leavers who wish to pursue a route into the Art & Design and Media fields and progression to a Level 3 course. Art, Design and Media skills will be mainly acquired through studio or workshop sessions. Please note that this course has been developed principally for 16-19 year old applicants and is therefore not ideally suited to mature students. Suitable alternatives for mature students include Portfolio Development in Art and Design or the Foundation Degree in Fine Art, both of which are offered by the College.

Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants should hold one of the following:

- All applicants should have an appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy and related interests
Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Assessment is through coursework and set assignments. You will build up a portfolio which can be used to progress onto other more specialised courses.
Progression Routes:
Upon success completion students may progress to a BTEC National Diploma course in:
- General Art & Design
- Fine Art
- Media Production
- Photography
- Fashion and Clothing
Career Options:
With further study a career in a creative environment may be possible.
