Course content
This subject looks at the many different and varied ways of advertising and how you set about producing ideas using different processes and materials. The subject allows you to explore different areas within advertising for example illustration, typography and packaging and helps you to achieve the necessary skills. You will explore different ways of producing your work which will incorporate drawing, painting, printing methods and the use of digital imaging and the use of Photoshop. Throughout the year you will be given instruction on how other designers and artists have produced work so as to enable you to appreciate the design process. Trips to galleries are an important part of the course and you will be expected to go on these.
You need to be self motivated and want to learn and use different methods in your work and have a good imagination.

How Will I Be Assessed?
AS: Year 1
You will produce a series of projects which will reflect your learning and development of the subject. The work will include critical thinking and understanding of others work as well as good technical knowledge.
At the end of the AS year you will take a practical exam in which you have to produce a solution to a question under exam conditions.
A2: Year 2
If you are successful in your AS year you can progress to A2 which will enable you to develop your skills further. You will produce more coursework and take a practical exam at the end of the year.

What Could I Do Next?
You can study HND/degree courses that offer further opportunities in the field of graphic design. This can lead to careers such as illustrating, marketing and advertising.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
This subject can be expensive, as you will need to purchase art and presentation materials; with visits to museums and art galleries you can easily spend 100.00 per year. We also ask students to pay for all computer printing costs.
