General overview
Our course is about exploring photography and broadening horizons. You will explore innovative photography keeping up to date with new developments and debates. Whatever your interests in photography, you will discover the work of established photographers, some well known and others new to you.

In your first year you will identify and build upon your skills through practical assignments. You will have experience of all types of equipment, processes, materials and genres of photography, working on location and in studios.

The second year will allow you to further develop specialist skills appropriate to your progress as an individual, and have opportunities for work placement and European exchanges. You will be encouraged to see, think and take creative risks as an individual.

In your final year you will use your practical, analytical and critical skills to complete personal assignments, a dissertation and a final major project. This year will see full independence and professionalism, clarifying your future in photography.

Professional studies support students at all levels to think about and plan their future careers.

The course is affiliated to the Association of Photographers and the British Institute of Professional Photography, which awards the Professional Qualifying Examination to suitable students.

Whether it is our new state of the art high-end digital Apple Mac suite or our brand new darkrooms, you will learn about all forms of photographic practice. You have the opportunity to use a range of different cameras to suit your particular style and interest. Our facilities and technical support are second to none and we are kept up to date, at the cutting edge of technological advances, with hardware and staff development to be able to support you.

What can I do next?
Graduates can pursue careers either as independent photographers, or work in a range of photographic employment areas such as editorial, publishing, advertising, exhibitions, portrait and fashion, electronic imaging or ancillary roles connected with the photographic industry. Others take advantage of a variety of postgraduate opportunities.
