Course Description
The BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science is a practical, work-related course which provides an interesting and stimulating approach to the study of science. The complete First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE grades at A*-C and develops the skills needed to start a career in science, or provides an ideal background for progression to our BTEC National Diploma qualifications. The technical and employability skills, knowledge and understanding you will gain from this qualification are transferable to many different areas either in employment within science based industries, or as a basis for further study in education. There are no exams and assessment is by the completion of a range of internally assessed assignments and projects during the course.

- Forensic Science Applications
- Science in Medicine
Course Length and Study Pattern
This is a one year course with approx. 11 hours per week over 2 days each week, from September to July.
Career Progression
Employment in the science field, e.g. Health and Safety, Medical Laboratory Technology, Quality Control, Materials Testing and Chemical Analysis
Further Education BTEC National Diploma qualifications in Applied Science (e.g. Forensic/Medical Science)
Work Experience
You will have chance to visit laboratories and workplaces during the course.
Assessment
Each unit is assessed by assignment tasks, which build up into a portfolio. There are no exams.
