ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will have met one of the following entry requirements:

2 GCSEs at grades A*- D; or
BTEC Introductory Diploma in a related subject; or
GNVQ Foundation in a related subject; or
Other recognised UK/Overseas related FULL FE Level 1 awards.

Applicants will also have interviewed successfully for the course.

All applicants have to provide a positive educational reference stating their suitability for this course, as well giving information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance on their previous course.(For example, if an applicant cannot provide evidence of attendance of 80% or over on the preceding course they may not be allowed to enrol on this course).
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical and work-related course. Students will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course is made up of six units three core units, which provide a general foundation and three specialist units, which introduce learners to particular topics in more depth.

Basic Skills are integral to students achieving this course. Through the study of Business Communications and Information Technology skills students will learn how to complete their assignments up to the level required by their course and their future employers.

In addition to studying Basic Skills the subjects covered are:

Exploring Business Purposes;
Developing Customer Relations;
Investigating Financial Control;
Business Communication;
Providing Business And Administrative Support;and
Doing Business Online.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
80% of the achieving students from the First Diploma Business choose to come back to do the National Diploma Business or similar courses at Croydon College.

The other major progression route is to enter the workplace in a supervisory position or better.
