ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will have met one of the following entry requirements:

4 GCSEs at grades A*- C (including Mathematics and English); or
GNVQ Intermediate in Leisure and Tourism; or
BTEC First Diploma in Sport; or
Other recognised UK /Overseas related FE Level 2 awards.

Applicants will also need to have Adult Literacy/Basic Skills Level 2 and ICT Level 2 or the equivalent.

All prospective students will be required to produce a satisfactory reference including information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance in line with college requirements.

Units within this course require applicants to work with younger children. All students will be screened by The Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) during enrolment at the college, as this will help identify applicants who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society.
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This is a broad-based courses consisting of 12 units (Certificate). This courses is practical and work-related and students will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Work experience is an integral part of this course and all students will have to participate in this activity. Students will also have the opportunity to study for additional qualifications, for example, Community Sports Leader Award.

In addition to studying Key Skills the subjects covered will include:

Body in Action;
Ethics and Values in Sport;
Health and Safety in Sport;
Nutrition for Weight;
Principles of Coaching;
Sport in Society;
Sports Development;
The Reflective Practitioner;
Training and Fitness; and
Working with Children.

Subject to demand and timetabling these qualifications could be
combined with AS/A level and/or other awards in certain subjects.

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of these courses students can progress onto studying at Foundation Degree or Degree level at Croydon Higher Education College or other institutions or seek employment within the sports industry.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Assignments/ Portfolio
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE In the second year of this course students will be expected to attend a Sports Related work placement for one day a week.
