PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This course is for those interested in a career in professional design, administration or the supervisory side of the building industry, including civil engineering, architecture, surveying, estate management, quantity surveying and building surveying.
A BTEC National Diploma qualification is directly equivalent to three A-levels and offers a good opportunity for progression to Higher Education (HE) and employment.
Subjects studied will include:
Architectural drawings
Computer-aided design
construction technology
Land/Site surveying
Building surveying
Quantity surveying
Students will also have the opportunity to study City & Guilds qualifications in AutoCAD,Key skills in IT and application of Number and Communication in supplementary studies as an integral part of their course.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
Many students progress to HE, enrolling on degrees in architecture, building management and design, surveying or civil engineering. Other students choose the BTEC HND route.
Employment at technical level, in a variety of occupations, within the construction industry is a route some past students have chosen.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Continuous assessment through work-related assignments plus end of unit examinations.
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Each year the course includes a one week residential surveying field trip.
