Study Method:
This is a full-time course requiring attendance at the college for three and one half days per week. Additional subjects may be taken on separate sessions. Study comprises of formal lectures and assignments.
Site visits and work experience form an integral part of the course. There is also the opportunity to undertake a European exchange with technical colleges abroad.

Who the Course is For:
The BTEC National Diploma course has been designed to enable students to develop a progressive career in the construction industry. It is designed for those who wish to become a construction technician or professional in architecture, building surveying, quanitity surveying, civil and structural engineering.
Assessment:
Assessment is made on the basis of in course assignments and course work. There is an externally assessed assignment in the second year which is marked internally and moderated by BTEC. The National Diploma can be obtained by passing 18 units which include 5 core units essential to the course.

The majority of students completing National Diploma courses at Barking College go on to study on Higher National Diploma or Certificate courses and more than half of these go on to Degree programmes, which refelcts the high standards achieved here.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants mush have at least one of the following:
An advanced craft in a recognised building trade.
NVQ level 3 in a recognised building trade.
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above in: Mathematics, Physical, General or combined Science, English, such as History.
A BTEC First Diploma or Certificate in Construction or a GNVQ Intermediate Award.
A suitable alternative qualification approved by the course team in conjunction with the BTEC Verifier.
