This course provides the knowledge and skills essential for the modern office environment. You will gain flexible, transferable skills that can be applied to a number of administrative support positions. The course is suitable for non-native English speakers, particularly those who have part-time jobs (eg au pair or part-time work). The courses aim is to develop your business English and business practice for use in the commercial environment both in your home country and elsewhere whilst acquiring marketable skills.

Course Content:
OCR Certificate in Administration Level 2

  • Unit 1 Preparing business communications
  • Unit 2 Maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and customers
  • Unit 3 Working in Business Organisations
  • Unit 4 Following office procedures to complete tasks
  • Unit 5 Create, manage and integrate files

Units 1 and 3 are externally examined in June Units 2 and 4 are assignment based, locally assessed and externally moderated Unit 5 is examined, locally assessed and externally moderated An integral part of the assessment of Unit 2 is demonstrating the ability to deal with colleagues and customers. Students will therefore be required to take an active part in team tasks which will include liaison with customers. OCR Text Processing options:

  • Text Production Intermediate
  • Choice of Word Processing Intermediate or Business Presentations Intermediate

ESOL language options:

  • Preliminary English Test
  • First Certificate in English or
  • Certificate of Advanced English

For candidates who achieve the 5 core units of the Certificate in Administration, plus the two Text Processing options, the Diploma in Administration with Text Processing will be claimed.

Vocational Relevance:
Employment opportunities are always available for successful candidates. Local firms approach the department each year seeking college leavers for junior secretarial and administrative positions, offering further training. In addition, agency contacts are established during the course and several candidates choose to take temporary work in event administration or other sectors to find out which type of work suits them.

Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR).
Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.

Assessment:
This course is assessed through a mix of continual assessment and final examination.

Progression Routes:
Many candidates decide to continue at West Kent College taking either an NVQ in Administration, Advanced Diploma in Administration or other Further Education or Higher Education courses.

Career Options:
Successful candidates will find the job market buoyant with a wide range of administrative support positions, both part time and full time.

Related Courses:
Diploma in Administration Advanced This is suitable for more mature students with an excellent standard of written English who have been in the workplace but wish to return to education to gain work based qualifications. It is also a progression route for those who successfully complete their level 2 Diploma in Administration.
