Course programme

Business: BTEC First Diploma
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You will develop the knowledge and skills to complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. The course is equivalent to four GCSE grades A*-C.

Course details
The course is made up of six units: three core units provide a general foundation and three specialist units will introduce learners to particular topics in more depth, during which you will have the opportunity to explore how businesses operate.

How is it assessed?
All units are internally assessed and graded by teachers. To get the diploma, you must at least pass all units.

Course duration
One year full-time.

What do I need to study this subject?
You should have BTEC Introductory Diploma at least Merit grade, four GCSE grades A*-D, including English Language and Maths, or another related level 1 or 2 qualification.

Where can this lead me?
With further training or study, learners may progress into business-related careers such as accounting, administration, customer service, finance, IT, personnel or sales. The course gives a very good preparation both for employment and more advanced courses such as a BTEC National Award, Certificate or Diploma in Business or a BTEC National Award or Certificate in e-Business.

What are the enrichment opportunities?
An invaluable part of this course is that each student will be expected to start up and run a small business, with colleagues, within the Young Enterprise Scheme. Visits are an integral part of the course: for example, a trip to France is organised every year to include a presentation by P&O Ferries. Work experience is undertaken.
