Content and structure
Do you want to develop a career in the areas of Business, Management and Communications? Do you enjoy work-based and placement learning where academic knowledge
and understanding will be reinforced by the development of vocational skills? Then this Foundation Degree could be for you. It has been developed in partnership with Oxford Brookes University to explore progressively each of the three core strands which contribute to a successful business organisation. The Business strand will introduce you to the scope and functions of business and will gradually develop your understanding of the internal and external environment in which businesses operate. The Management strand introduces basic management concepts and theories integrating organisational behaviour aspects with management and decision making. The Communications strand will introduce the interaction and communication between staff and internal and external customers. Communication methods are explored in recognition that these are key skills that you will need to enter into or progress within the workplace. In the first year you will be introduced to areas such as criticality and academic writing, in addition to developing a portfolio to support your profesional development. In the second year you will be focusing on research skills and developing your skills of enquiry and preparing you for your final year Business Project. Students taking the three year route will follow a modified pathway through the programme.
