Chemistry - AS & A Level
This is the course for those who wish to venture into the world of chemical concepts. You will be keen to enhance your practical laboratory skills, and your investigative and communication skills.

What will I need to follow the course?
You will need 6 GCSEs at grades A-C in order to study AS subjects. You will be expected to have a grade A or B in Double Science and Mathematics. The requirements for adults will be different.

What will I study?
You will study chemistry concepts whilst at the same time developing practical skills in the laboratory. You will learn to appreciate the contribution made by Chemistry to society.
Will I have to sit any examinations?
Your work will be examined during the year (in January and in June) and you will also be assessed on your practical course work.
What will I have at the end of the course?
On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded an AS qualification in Chemistry. You can study the subject for another year and gain an A level qualification. You will study the following topics in your second year:
What next?
The subject can lead to a degree course at University. Some of our former Chemistry students have taken a degree in Biochemistry or Life Sciences while others have pursued a career in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or physiotherapy.
