The Course
Students have the opportunity to study a variety of subjects all essential to the care and education of children from birth to 16 years. These subjects relate to the child in the family and society including health, inclusion, equality of opportunity, legal requirements, holistic and specific development, theories and practical ideas supporting childrens play and education.
Course Content
There are 9 mandatory core units and 3 units to be decided 12 in total. This course prepares students for work with children and their families in many different types of settings by this vital linking of theory to practice.
The course is hard work and requires a substantial commitment from students in terms of hours of study and their involvement in the work place.
All the classroom sessions are linked to the practice observed and undertaken in a variety of work placements. These placements will cover specific age ranges laid down by the Awarding Body, the Centre for Awards in Childrens Care and Education (CACHE).
The National Occupational Standards for the profession require that all Childrens Care and Education Practitioners are able to reflect on the quality of their practice, include all children in planning and reviewing and ensure each childs safety is paramount.
The qualification gives graduating students a Licence to Practise and the possibility of taking sole charge of children in a variety of settings.
Assessment/Exams
Through a variety of assignment tasks, a research assignment, a short answer test, multiple choice questions, Practice Evidence Records (PERs) and Professional Development Profiles (PDPs).
Progression/Career Path
Students can go on to university, work in schools, nurseries, as a nanny or as a childminder abroad. All aspects of childcare including education of children, health, legal aspects, development, etc.
