Summary
This diploma programme aims to provide the underpinning knowledge and practical training to work with children and families in a wide range of settings. Three days per week are spent in College, and two days in practical placements with children up to eight years old. A high level of achievement can lead to entry to Higher Education.

CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education.

Progression Routes
Students may progress onto Higher Education courses including FdA Children's Care Learning and Development at West Suffolk College or seek employment in related areas.

Modules
Modules include 9 units covering areas such as: The Developing Child Play and Learning Keeping Children Safe Studies will look at development of the children and babies in the context of the society in which they live. The course also includes competence in the skills of observation and assessment and working with children under the age of 16 years. The scheme offers considerable flexibility of work experience in a wide range of Childcare and Education settings. You will also complete Basic Food Hygiene, First Aid, Manual Handling and Health & Safety. There are enrichment opportunities, covering team building and outward bound activities integrated into the course.

Entry Requirements
You must have at least 4 GCSE's at Grade C or above, or GNVQ Intermediate with Merits, or the BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development achieving an overall Merit. You must also provide two satisfactory references on your suitability to work with children. Alternatively, applications from older students without these qualifications are considered on individual circumstances. All childcare students will have to have a Criminal Record Check for which there will be a charge.

Course Content
The Diploma programme aims to prepare you to work competently, safely and effectively with children aged 0 - 16 years taking into account the fact that children live in families and communities. Students will spend three days a week in College studying vocational areas in Child Health, Education and Social Studies together with supplementary studies. Two days a week will be spent in practical placements to gain both training and experience. Students who have not achieved English Language or Maths Grade C will be expected to achieve level 2 Literacy and Numeracy.
